Petitioning: Georgia General Assembly
Started by MyVote✓ Official MyVote petition
Georgia legalized automated speed-enforcement cameras in school zones in 2018. Since then, drivers across the state have raised concerns about how the cameras are used: short or poorly marked zones, tickets issued well outside school hours, and private vendors taking a cut of every fine. In 2026, the General Assembly passed HB 651, which added restrictions (a local referendum every six years and a 10-mph ticketing threshold) but stopped short of banning the cameras. A full repeal (HB 225) passed the House 129-37 but did not become law. This petition calls on the Georgia General Assembly to finish the job and outlaw automated school-zone speed cameras statewide, returning school-zone speed enforcement to trained law-enforcement officers.
